11 Horror Movies with the Saddest Endings

A list of heart-wrenching horror movies made you shed tears and shiver with fear.

There’s something about horror movies that already mess with your emotions even if they don’t feature a tragic ending. The films are already grabbing at your worst fears and playing with your mind, which to me, is bad enough. Then, it is just like a punch in the throat when they go throw an ending like The Mist at you. Am I right? But that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate these films, these are in fact some of my favorite.. And I find a movie to be done right if it is able to at least evoke one emotion out of you.  I mean, really if you just sit there watching a movie the whole time and don’t feel humor, fear, happiness, sadness, mystery or bliss.. what exactly is the point of watching it?

I will not give out details on these endings because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. Let me know in the comment section which ones I’ve missed!

Good job putting The Mist at #1. That’s the most fucked up ending of any American horror movie I’ve ever seen. It’s crazy because that’s NOT how it ends in the short story. Still, I fucking love it!

I definitely think Audrey Rose (1977) deserves a place on this list. Man, that whole movie is a downer.

Might have made room for Night of the Living Dead (1968) on there. 🙂

I’m curious why you went with the 1999 version of The Haunting and not the 1963 version. That’s twice in one list that you snubbed Robert Wise. 😉

I thought losing gage Creed was the saddest ending losing a child is heart breaking and losing a mother too I’m going to have to check out the movie mama since I have never seen it before but always wanted to watch it.
