25th Anniversary Blu-Ray for Bruce Campbell oldie Moontrap… Oh, and a sequel!

Chins in space!

Bruce Campbell starring sci-fi/horror yarn Moontrap has been announced by Olive Films to be getting it’s first ever disk release in the form of a 25th Anniversary Blu-Ray! The last time this film saw home media was back in the days of VHS in ’89.

For those that haven’t seen it, the film is about two astronauts played by Walter Koenig (Star Trek) and Bruce Campbell (need I elaborate?) who come upon an alien relic and bring it back to earth to study it. The relic turns out to be a deadly alien robot constructed by an alien race. Campbell and Koenig are then sent back into space, to the moon, in an attempt to uncover the origin of the machine and, as thing turn ugly, to prevent an army of them from invading Earth.

The Blu-Ray will see release on November 4. The film will be remastered in HD and bonus features will include new video interviews with Campbell and Koenig and one with director Robert Dyke and writer Tex Ragsdale, along with an audio commentary track with Dyke and Ragsdale.

And they just announced a sequel coming out next year. Dyke and Ragsdale reunite to bring us Moontrap: Target Earth. No Bruce Campbell this time, unfortunately. This sequel will instead feature Sarah Butler (I Spit on Your Grave remake) and Charles Shaughnessy (The Nanny).

The sequel’s plot deals with the discovery of an ancient spaceship left behind on Earth by long dead aliens. A young woman (presumably Butler) studies it and ends up being transported to the moon to once again face the giant machines.

The pic at the top is a production still from the sequel!
