Horror movies have been around for many years and really began to rise in popularity in the 1970s. They are often referred to as Scream Queens and are viewed in an iconic way by many horror fans. Read on to find more information about 5 famous scream queens – then and now.
Jamie Lee Curtis
As the daughter of Janet Leigh, star of the film Psycho and scream queen in her own right, it was perhaps no surprise that Jamie Lee Curtis got her big break in a horror film. She received critical acclaim for her performance as Laurie Strode in Halloween. She has gone on to star in all types of genres such as comedies like 'Freaky Friday' and has has a number of TV roles. She is reprising her role in Halloween when a new film from the franchise is released in 2018.
Sigourney Weaver
The character of Ripley was originally intended to be a man before Sigourney Weaver was cast. Today it is impossible to imagine anyone else in that role, male or female. As well as a glittering film career she is also known for her work on Broadway and for her work as a voice artist.
Neve Campbell
Neve Campbell had starred in a few TV shows before she was cast in Scream but she was still a relatively unknown actress. When the cast list was first announced people assumed that Drew Barrymore was going to be the heroine and were therefore very surprised when she was killed off in the first ten minutes. The character of Sydney Prescott played by Campbell went on to star in all three of the Scream films and managed to survive them all. Since then she has worked both in TV and movies and her most recent part was as LeeAnn Harvey in the Netflix drama 'House Of Cards'.
Linda Blair
The Exorcist is one of the most controversial horror movies of all time and Linda Blair was only fourteen when the film was released. It is still the role for which she is best known even more than 40 years later. She went on to star in a number of horror films and this remains the genre for which she is best known. Today she still works as an actress and has had a number of cameo roles in films and TV shows as well as playing main characters.
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Jennifer Love Hewitt was one of the main characters in 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' and she also starred in the sequel. She continued with the theme of horror and the supernatural in her first major TV role in the 'Ghost Whisperer'. She also had a brief career as a singer but this did not bring her as much success as her acting. She has also worked as a producer on some of the films and shows that she has starred in.
