6 Alien Movies You (Probably) Haven’t Seen

A list of creepy and awesome alien films you need to see.

alien

Abduction: Incident in Lake County (1998)
Synopsis:“After a mysterious blackout, a son goes out to investigate and captures footage of actual aliens. When the aliens follow him and his brothers back to their home, all hell breaks loose.”
Why it’s awesome: This TV movie was made well before found-footage was even a thing. There are so many tense moments all that mostly just play with your mind that make the film so great. No special effects were really needed as the movie was able to pull off of enough scares without it.

Fire in the Sky (1991)
Synopsis: “This film recreates the strange events which happened on November 5, 1975 in the town Snowflake, Arizona. Travis Walton works in the White Mountains, clearing bush for the government. Driving home from work, his colleagues arrive back in town, claiming that Travis was abducted by aliens. Nobody believes them, and despite a lack of motive and no evidence of foul play, Travis’ disappearance is treated as murder. Travis reappears after five days, but in time, the terrible memories of his alien abduction come back…”
Why it’s awesome: Not only is this one based off of a true story (yes a real true story, not just some false marketing scheme like The Fourth Kind) but it also has the scariest abduction scene, in my opinion, to date. When it’s over, it will definitely leave you thinking about it for days.

Alien Abduction (2014)
Synopsis: “A vacationing family encounters an alien threat in this thriller based on the real-life Brown Mountain Lights phenomenon in North Carolina.”
Why it’s awesome: You’d think from it’s not-so-subtle title that the movie may be pretty bland and cheesy.. well to me, that is far from the truth. Alien Abduction kept me on the edge of my seat for about 90% of the film and far exceeded my expectations. You can also check out my review of the film here.

TAKEN TV SERIES

Taken (TV Mini-series 2002)
Synopsis: “Taken spans five decades and four generations, centering on three families: the Keys, Crawfords, and Clarkes. World War II veteran Russell Keys is plagued by nightmares of his abduction by aliens during the war; the Roswell incident transforms Owen Crawford from ambitious Air Force captain to evil shadow government conspirator; the unhappily married Sally Clarke is impregnated by an alien visitor. As the decades go by, the heirs of each are affected by the machinations of the aliens, culminating with the birth of Allie Keys, who is the final product of the aliens’ experimentation and holds the key to their future.”
Why it’s awesome: Now, I know this technically is not a movie and may not always be considered horror, but it’s still an amazing piece. The mini-series stars many big names and has stayed under the radar for quite some time. I loved watching this one, with the many different storylines with ample twists and turns to keep you wanting more. Not to mention, a rather epic ending that polished the story off nicely.

LUNOPOLIS_OFFICIAL-POSTER-2011-1920x1080h

Lunpolis (2009)
Synopsis: “Two documentary filmmakers accidentally uncover the greatest moon secret the world has never known, and the powerful organization determined to keep it that way.”
Why it’s awesome: A superbly intriguing mock-u-mentary that slowly but surely begins to mess with your mind. Although this one is technically not a horror flick, the last half of the film features plenty of creepy scenes.

The-Signal-670x470
The Signal (2014)
Synopsis: “On a road trip, Nic and two friends are drawn to an isolated area by a computer genius. When everything suddenly goes dark, Nic regains consciousness – only to find himself in a waking nightmare.”
Why it’s awesome: This sci-fi thriller is one twisted and fun ride. It definitely leaves some unanswered questions when it’s over but needless to stay, it’s worth a watch and probably a re-watch. And believe me, it’s all worth it at the end… an ending that will leave your jaw dropped and with you scratching your head.

I really liked Alien Abduction. I also think it’s a time when found footage actually worked well for the story.
