Ah, Julie and Ray in “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” cheesy indeed. I can’t count the number of times I mockingly imitated Freddie Prinze Jr.’s delivery of, “I love you, Julie; nobody gets me like you do.” Now I’m gonna wander over to my DVD shelf to look for another couple I’d suggest for such a list… …And I’m back to sing the praises of two couples from James Whale’s adaptation of “The Old Dark House”: Philip and Margaret Waverton get through the night and rebuild their broken relationship with an unconquerable mix of compassion and stiff-upper-lip, while Roger Penderel and Gladys DuCane meet, fall in love, and entriely transform each others’ lives while surrounded by horror.
You should check out Chris and Tina in Sightseers! They’re far from bad-ass but they are one of the funniest horror couples I’ve ever experienced!
