9 Alternate Horror Movie Endings You May Not Know Exist

Final Destination (2000)

In this alternate ending for Final Destination, Alex dies a fiery death when Claire’s car started on fire.  As it turns out though, Claire was pregnant with Alex’s baby, whom she gives birth to. At the end of this alternative ending, we see Carter and Claire at the graveyard with Claire’s baby discussing how they escaped death and won.

Hannibal (2001)

As we all know, at the end of Hannibal, there was an almost kiss between Clarice and Dr. Lector. However, in a shot alternate ending, Dr. Lector licks Clarice and then proceeds to kiss her. Also, you’ll notice in this clip, no one is handcuffed so Dr. Lector is able to easily make his escape, free of any harm. There was also an extended version of Lector on the plane with the little boy, discussing strangers more in-depth.

Orphan (2009)

This alternative ending surprised me quite a bit that it was not chosen– seeing as it leaves much room out there for a sequel. In this clip, you’ll see that Esther lives and is arrested by police after very creepingly walking down the stairs with an eerie smile on her blood-covered face.

Paranormal Activity (2008)

I know most people know of the alternate endings of this film, but I figured I would include it just in case. In the above ending, Katie is shot to death by police officers after being in a cationic state after murdering Micah.  Another ending was shot as well, a more gruesome one, where Katie slowly walks up to the camera and slits her throat.

28 Days Later (2002)

28 Days Later originally had a much more tragic ending, where Jim does not survive his gunshot wound despite Selena’s efforts to save him at the hospital. This ending ends with Selena and Hannah slowly walking down the dark hallways of the hospital with their future unknown. Director Danny Boyle stated he did not go with this ending because audiences did not like this version in test screenings.

I am Legend (2007)

A much more happier ending was shot for I Am Legend that actually showed some humanity left in the undead creatures. In this one, it is revealed that all the alpha male and his followers wanted was to save the test female subject. With much relief, Neville escapes with Anna and Ethan.

Freddy vs. Jason (2003)

A much more weird, twisted ending was shot for this film with Lori and Will having sex and Freddy interrupting..

The Descent (2005)

This ending is actually the one that was shown in theaters in the UK and other countries. When it was shown in America, the ending was changed. The film’s original ending features Sarah only hallucinating that she escaped from the cave and waking up to find she was still stuck there.

1408 (2007)

A few endings were shot for 1408, and in this particular one Mike dies in the fire in the hotel room and then it cuts to his wife cleaning out his office with Sam. Sam is then seen opening up a package that contained Mike’s new book entitled “1408.” Sam is completely stunned and the movie then ends with an eerie loop of Mike talking.
