Overview:
The year is 1952. Elsa Mars (Jessica Lange) heads Frauline Elsa’s Cabinet of Curiosities. She has a small group of performers. Johnny ‘Lobster Boy’ Darling (Evan Peters), his mother Ethel, the bearded lady (Kathy Bates) and a few others. Television is becoming pretty popular and people don’t seem to be too keen on seeing any live shows, let alone a freak show. Elsa needs a new attraction.
Her wish comes true in the small town of Jupiter, Florida An elderly woman is found murdered, her Siamese daughters, Bette and Dot (Sarah Paulson playing both) are the only survivors. Elsa visits the sisters in the hospital to convince them to join her show. The sisters are conflicted but Elsa warns them that the police might suspect them of their mother’s murder. They leave with her to become stars.
As Bette and Dot’s lives seem to change for the better, things are becoming dangerous for others. A murderous clown (John Carroll Lynch) goes on a killing rampage. He’s terrifying and shows no mercy. He’s taken two hostages, a young woman and little boy. They’re both terrified and have no idea what’s in store for them. Who else will this evil clown go after? What does he want and who can stop him?
Impression: It was an interesting start. I hope we can see more of the performers and their back stories. Lange seems to be playing a calmer role in this season. Peters comes across as an anti-hero as opposed to his darker roles in the previous seasons. The clown is damn scary. I wonder if he’s just an ordinary serial killer, or something more sinister. American Horror Story always seems to add a supernatural twist every season. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what scares will come our way. Here’s the intro for the new season:
