What do you get when you cross Lara Croft with Josie and the Pussycats, Reservoir Dogs, The Hills Have Eyes, and Jurassic Park? You get Daisy Derkins vs the Bloodthirsty Beast of Barrens Pines! Mark Mackner’s 2nd installment of his Daisy Derkins series. (Yes series, as I know for a fact that part 3 is being worked on as I have a very painful cameo in it – more on that in due time though).
In Daisy Derkins vs. the Bloodthirsty Beast of Barren Pines!, monster-slaying hero Daisy Derkins ventures into the woods to deal with a carnivorous dinosaur, and runs afoul of a touring punk band, a manic bounty hunter, a trio of voluptuous female criminals, and a family of mutant cannibals along the way.
It’s fun, it’s cheesy, it’s a throwback B movie, a style I personally feel is being lost now a days. It’s a classic low budget indie film situation. A group of people with a few bucks having fun and just enjoying making a film. Doing it for the love of filmmaking.
And the best news of all? Daisy Derkins vs. the Bloodthirsty Beast of Barren Pines! is currently streaming on Amazon Prime (and will be coming to Hulu in May). The film stars Mary Sack as Daisy Derkins, Dahlia DeSade, J.D. Korejko, with an appearance by Lloyd Kaufman.
But wait, remember when I said the film was the 2nd installment of his Daisy Derkins series? This film is a direct sequel to Daisy Derkins: Dogsitter of the Damned (which you can just so happen to be able to pick up on Amazon).
For more info on the film, check out Daisy Derkins vs. The Bloodthirsty Beast of Barren Pines on Facebook.
As for the 3rd installment, Daisy Derkins 3: Dinosaur Apocalypse, stay tuned.
