Wading through cosplayers dressed to the nines in their best gore gear, I made my way to his table for our interview.
We know him from Star Trek The Next Generation, The Addams Family movies, Twin Peaks, Men in Black, De erfenis, The Witches of Eastwick, Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club…. Seriously he’s done it all.

M.NessK: Hello Mr Struycken I’m here; thank you for agreeing to do this interview with me.
He sat there with his large hands clasped gently, one over the other. His blue eyes glinting in the light as he glanced up at me, smiled, and said: “Hello there.” I stuttered for a moment, as I was in awe of his immense beauty.
As we situated ourselves for the interview I noted the plethora of prints from the various films and tv shows he’d been in, I of course chose to purchase an image from TNG. Because… Star Trek.
M. NessK: Thank you so much for agreeing to do this interview.
Carel Struycken: Thank you for interviewing me.
M. NessK: So you’ve done an incredible amount of iconic films and television shows. Is there a favourite out of the long list?
Carel Struycken: I would say my favourite is Twin Peaks. I was already a big fan of the show.. So it was just great to be part of it.
Still from Twin Peaks featuring Michael J. Anderson
M. NessK: You had a lot of lines in that role as well, considering the roles you usually take have you silent for the most part.
Carel Struycken: That’s right! Considering many of my other roles, that’s very true. And very deep lines too.
M. NessK: Yes indeed. The lines you & Michael J. Anderson speak are some of the most compelling lines in the show. I’ve actually been binging on Twin Peaks this last week, since I knew you were going to be here.
Carel Struycken: *laughs* That’s great!
M. NessK: If Twin Peaks ever came back, would you want to be part of it?
Carel Struycken: Oh absolutely.
Star Trek The Next Generation
M. NessK: So I have to ask, what was your favourite part of playing Mr. Homn on TNG?
Carel Struycken: Well he never had any lines and many people would ask why, so one day I decided to put needle pins in my mouth for a scene, to pull them out. That scene is one of his most popular scenes on (TNG) and it was improvised.
M. NessK: That’s amazing!!! I never knew that, but that is one of my favourite scenes of you. So what do you have coming out right now that we as fans can watch?
Carel Struycken: Well I’m working on a few of my own projects, but no acting in my future as of right now. You know, I’m waiting for a phone call.
M. NessK: That’s wonderful that you’ve ventured out to make your own projects! Are you writing, or directing these projects?
Carel Struycken: I’m writing, using the computer to put it together. It’s very small scale, no budget project.
M. NessK: Very cool! I can’t wait to see it. Ah! Thank you so much for granting us your time. I know it’s been a long weekend, and I just want to say that you are not only amazing, but graciously kind.
Carel Struycken: *laughs* Oh thank you. *laughs again*
He gave me a big hug and we parted ways.
I was left inspired by his positive attitude, and openness.
And.. I hope you are too.
