The parents are best described as the humans of a kaiju movie. They get the most development, are given the most focus and we experience the tragedy through them. Thing is they’re actually pretty interesting to follow through it all. Sure, I found them very embarrassing whenever they played with the kids, especially David, but the more I learned about them as people behind the mask of parenthood, I did actually start to empathise with the plight they were under with these little snots for their kids. Again, especially David. Despite being a priest he clearly knew how to live life and be happy, and with him being a priest and a survivor of abuse I found Clare falsely blaming him to be more than a little tragic. Although it may just be because he too talks into a camera and expects a response.
