JIM ANTHONY: SUPER DETECTIVE!

Volume 2: The Hunters promises smokin' Yeti action

JIM ANTHONY: SUPER DETECTIVE VOL. 2 – THE HUNTERS

AUTHOR: Josh Reynolds & Micah S. Harris

PLOT: Two-part pulp tale pits hero against abominable snowman

4-Knives

IMHO:

Jim Anthony, hero of the Super-Detective series, is a character from today’s New Pulp movement. In other words, he is a reiteration of the types of tough, resourceful heroes who starred in various gadgety and two-fisted tales mingling action and the occult (or some such paranormalish sort of thing). JIM ANTHONY: SUPER DETECTIVE VOL. 2 is another in the happily popular revival of interest in all things pulp. The New Pulp movement spans publishers; there are no monopolies on this literary movement which I believe should be encouraged.

This second installment in the Jim Anthony series, The Hunters, finds hard-boiled badass Anthony and his motley crew of adventure-seekers and danger-hunters facing off against the long-sought and legendary Yeti (or whatever moniker by which you know the creature). From the cold heights of the Himalayas to the streets (and skylines) of the city, The Hunters mixes cryptozoology and super-villain shenanigans full of intrigue, high-flying and high-octane action, mystery monsters, and more.

Pulpmasters Josh Reyolds and Micah S. Harris understand what makes pulp, pulp, and such is reflected in the swift tale and punchy prose. This kind of rollicking adventure kept readers happy from issue to issue back in the age of pulp magazines and these two writers craft an able evocation of the era’s action/adventure lit. Their contribution to the New Pulp movement, which is raising awareness for new-to-pulp readers and bringing a cornucopia of new material for established pulp fans, marks them as important figures in this powerful new stream of pulp thrills for the modern age – that appreciates an old-school yarn.
