Play As Your Favorite Boogeyman In “TERRORDROME”

2D fighter pits horror's most infamous killers against one another.

I’ll freely admit that I’m absolutely terrible at fighting games. I just don’t have the reflexes. But be that as it may, when Mortal Kombat debuted in 1992 I was mesmerized. I used to go to the skating rink just to watch other kids play the arcade version. I never considered actually playing it myself because the line was always so goddamn long. And I’d end up spending my quarters on Skittles, or one of those gooey arm things you would fling at the ceiling once and – when it got stuck there – I’d pretty much just give up on having a good day at all.

Mortal Kombat was amazing: the characters, the moves, the gore. I’ve always considered it a successful marriage of horror and martial arts/action. And then in 2011, the series was rebooted and not only did fans get to see their favorite characters re-imagined, we all got some bonus characters as well. One of which was a downloadable version of Springwood’s most infamous slasher: Freddy Krueger.

What an idea. Freddy Krueger in the Mortal Kombat universe. It totally made sense.

Well, some wonderfully imaginative homebrew programmers have created a game that takes this idea even further. Terrordrome: Rise of the Boogeymen, is a 2D fighting game for the PC that allows you to play as your favorite horror movie icon. “Oh so what, they give you like four choices?” Ah, no. There’s actually fourteen different fighters in this game. Let’s do the list: Leatherface (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Freddy Krueger (A Nightmare On Elm Street), Ash (Evil Dead), Michael Myers (Halloween), Chucky (Child’s Play), Jason Vorhees/Undead Jason(Friday the 13th), the Ghostface Killer (Scream), The Tall Man (Phantasm), the Maniac Cop (Maniac Cop), the Candyman (Candyman), Herbert West (ReAnimator), Pinhead (Hellraiser), and Pumpkinhead (Pumpkinhead).

And best of all, Terrordrome is a free game. The gameplay looks great (though I’d recommended you play it with a controller/joystick peripheral). Check out some of the footage here and visit the official website to download the game.

Here’s hoping we get some DLC characters at some point. I’d love to see Dr. Loomis go up against the Creeper (“He’s… pure… evil…)
