Pumpkinhead was never a huge franchise, but it certainly has it’s fans. While there are four movies and a comic chronicling the spindly demon, I’ve only ever seen the first film in the series and…it was pretty decent. Pumpkinhead itself is a pretty creepy looking fucker, and as far as gypsy curse stories go, this is a good one. It’s a bit cheesy for sure, but the atmosphere is top notch, and The Witch (“You’re looking for vengeance, vengeance. Say it!”) is a memorably strange lady in her own right.
Well just like that creepy corpse in the woods, it looks like the franchise is coming back to life, this time under the watchful eye of Saw producer Peter Block. So far next to nothing is known about the project, with no script having been written, director hired, or even a single teenager disemboweled by a hideous spider demon. Whether or not this will turn out to be a proper retelling or CGI clusterfuck is anyone’s guess at this point. But with Block keen on releasing in 2017, I guess we won’t have to wait long to find out.
