Top 10 Quotes from Horror Movies

The Lines that Put a Shiver Down Your Spine

Through-out horror movie history, there are an infinite amount of quotable lines. Through bad impersonations and garbled accents, fans have a way to relate to one another. There’s no better way to break the ice than a spirited “HERE”S Johnny!” In that grand tradition, here are my favorite 10 quotes from horror films.

10.  “Your gonna need a bigger boat”- Jaws

JawsChum

A perfect line for it’s simplicity, Brody utters the line after seeing the big bad shark for the first time. What I love so much about this quote, is that its pretty much exactly what I was thinking ; to take on that great white, they’d need a goddamn aircraft carrier.

 9. “They’re heeeeere!” — Poltergeist

poltergiest

When Carol Anne utters her iconic phrase, we know the shit is truly about to hit the fan. A rather slow start picks up into one of

the most straight up bonkers final acts in horror history, all from the mutterings of one little girl.

8. “A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with

some fava beans and a nice Chianti.” — Silence of The Lambs

lecotr

Hannibal Lecter has been repeatedly described as one of, if not the best, villains in cinema history. Even with less than 20 minutes on screen, Hopkins completely dominated Silence of the Lambs with his portrayal of the cannibalistic psychiatrist, and this quote is Hannibal Lecter in one line; the high class of the Chianti, and the revolting evil of cannibalism. Just perfect.

7. “When there’s no more room in Hell the dead will walk the Earth”-Dawn of the Dead

dawn

Spoken by Peter as he ponders the possible cause of the zombie apocalypse, it’s a great line representing the real anarchy thats

taken over the Earth. And in a world like that of Dawn of The Dead, maybe Hell isn’t such a bad option.

6. “We all go a little mad sometimes.”- Psycho

norman

At the time Norman Bates drops this line, were still not entirely sure how crazy this guy is. He’s a little awkward,  but it’s his mom thats been causing the problems the woman who has gone “a little mad”. As we learn later of course, Normans a little mad himself. Creepy and a little weird, just like Mr.Bates himself.

5.”We’ll tear your soul apart!”-Hellraiser

pinhead

One of the most badass lines in film, spoken by one of films most badass characters, the first time i heard Pinhead spit out this threat it sent shivers down my spine. While it seems rather basic at fist glance, its the fantastic and horrifying performance by Doug Bradley that really scares the shit out of you.  Freaking terrifying.

4. “We all float down here.”- It

it

Coming from one of the most badass lines, here we have one of the creepiest. Tim Currey’s performance as Pennywise is one of the finest in horror history, far outclassing the middling tv movie that contained it. If Pinhead put shivers down my spine, then Pennywise stabbed an icicle in my heart. Easily up there wih the most sinister quotes of all time.

3.”I wonder who the real cannibals are.”- Cannibal Holocaust

cannibal

Although not as iconic as some of the quotes gracing this list, Cannibal Holocaust is a truly underrated gem, unfairly looked over due to its graphic content. A mediation on what makes a human truly a savage or “a cannibal” the line is spoken by Professor Monroe after seeing the grisly acts the seemingly normal camera crew performed on the tribes. What truly is it that makes a man a savage; the nature of his birth or the character of his actions?

2.”I’m an insect who dreamt he was a man and loved it.

But now the dream is over and the insect is awake.”-The Fly

brunlefly

There’s something beautiful in these few short words, almost a perverse kind of poetry. As Brundle’s body continues to deteriorate his mind goes with it, until he can’t remember what it was like to be human in the first place. The story of The Fly is a tragedy more than anything, admittedly one with more bllood, vomit, and bodly fluids than Titanic. Its Cronenberg’s skill at combining the beauty and the bile that makes his work so compelling, something this line understands.

1. “Sometimes dead is better.”- Pet Sematary

jud

And here we have it folks, my favorite line in a horror film of all time. Spoken by Louise’s elderly neighbor Jud, the line is short, simple, and a perfect summary of the themes in Pet Sematary. Many times death seems like the end all to a situation, and many times it is. But there are things far worse out there. And in those times death is a blessing. “Sometimes dead is better.”

Well guys hope you enjoyed the list. What are some of your favorite horror quotes? Feel free to sound off in the comments or message me at Jefthehorrorguy@gmail.com. Until then, keep checking in to The Blood-shed. Peace.

#7 is incorrect… the original line is “When there’s no more room in Hell, the dead will walk the Earth”… after all, it was the tagline for the original Dawn of the Dead film in 1978…

Great list! Norman Bates’ ending line in Psycho was always my favorite.
