I don’t believe this justifies criminal charges at all. The fact that she was convicted is an example of how our society has changed in the past 20 years. When I was in 7th grade we watched Aliens in the auditorium right before Christmas break, we also watched Romeo and Juliet in English class which has nudity. That was a different time when our world wasn’t so PC and ridiculous. I think high school students can handle a film like this. If the school wanted to take some disciplinary action on Kearns that would be understandable, but for her to lose her job and have multiple criminal charges brought upon her is idiotic. I hope she appeals and wins. Great write Josh!
“But I do believe we are advanced enough as a society to accept the fact that horror movies are not quantifiably dangerous.” I think you might be over-estimating our society a little bit. 🙂
Unfortunately, I think you’re right. Been living up in the SF Bay for so long I forget the rest of the world isn’t so… evolved.
