NBC’s “Hannibal” is back for season 3 and at Comic-Con they revealed some new information on what is to come.
On Thursday, creator Bryan Fuller, Executive Producer Steven Lightfoot and Martha De Laurentiis, director David Slade, and cast members Caroline Dhavernas, Scott Thompson, and Aaron Abrams met with the fans of Comic-Con to answer and create some new questions for the show.
Let’s chow down on this meaty plate of information:
First the big surprise, On the panel was Raul Esparza (Dr.Chilton) and the shocker was he will be back and will be a big part of season three. Esparza who has worked with Fuller before on other shows, gives him full trust in his writing that he will survive. How you might ask? You will have tune in and watch.
Second, Will Graham and Hannibal will no longer feature their verbal battles. Instead the writers will be introducing new characters for the leads to interact with as well as some old faces. For instance we will see Eddie Izzard return in a flashback and Kacey Rohl (Abigail Hobbs) will also return in some way shape or form. Fuller will be introducing new characters that were major roles in the book series like Commander Apache, Lady Muraskai, Cordell, and Francis Dollarhyde.
Season three will start with a little bit of time gap after season two, approximately a year after the ending of the last episode. The writers said in order for the characters to reach their “most active point” they needed to have this gap. Information will be given throughout the season on what happened during that time.
Some changes will be happening to the structure of the show. It will no longer be a featured case of the week plot, but instead the focus will be on the pursuit of Hannibal moving forward.
Now some us are sitting here debating on what is the cuisine theme of the third season? Well it will be Italian, which foreshadows where Hannibal may end up. Fuller has already planned out a map for the upcoming seasons that will include plots of the films “Hannibal”, Hannibal Rising”, and “Red Dragon”. Unfortunately “Silence of the Lambs” will not be included (yet) due MGM licensing rights.
Fuller plans on having more female characters in the upcoming season, no Clarice will not be there sorry guys. Fuller says There will be some interesting things happening with the female characters and Hannibal.
A burning question the Fans asked is will there be a musical episode, Fuller stated “I would love to see a surreal musical number in Hannibal’s mind palace. I want to see Mads Mikkelsen dancing like Christopher Walken in “Weapon of Choice”.
The closing remark anything can happen on “Hannibal”.
